    Uses Notes:

Impatiens are one of the best shade plants for providing masses of color. They are great landscape and container plants. They are often planted in masses or drifts in shade gardens.

    Maintenance Notes:

Bedding Impatiens are generally easy plants for gardeners. They are great in shade, but can tolerant a fair amount of sun - as long as the soil remains moist. They do need the soil to remain moist for them to have peak performance. They are also a water needy plant, which means they do use a lot of water.  Where most plants are pretty happy with an inch of water a week, bedding impatiens will use more water than that in a typical week.  Be ready to provide regular moisture if needed. When it is hot the plants respond by using even more water, so as the temperatures rise the plants will likely need to be watered more deeply and more often.

Other than their water needs, the plants are low maintenance.  They do not need to be deadheaded and shouldn't need to be pruned, although you can trim them back as needed throughout the season.

We do recommend that you apply a dose of controlled or slow release fertilizer when you plant them.

These will do well in both containers and landscape beds.  If they are grown under trees, it will take some time for the roots to establish. Watering also becomes even more important since the trees will compete for water resources with your Impatiens.
